The YMCA Center for Civic Engagement is a statewide leadership development & civics program designed to allow students ages 11-19 to experience the processes of government in a hands-on way. Each year, CCE programs reach almost 7,000 middle and high school students across the state.
The YMCA CCE hosts one Leadership Conference, seven Model United Nations conferences and eleven Youth in Government conferences statewide each year. Students in the program have the opportunity to engage in mock governments at the state & international levels. At our conferences, students make friends from a variety of backgrounds, engage in respectful debate, practice public speaking, and find their voice.
The CCE is committed to making sure that no student is turned away from our conferences because of an inability to pay. Last year, the CCE gave away $159,000 in scholarships to 838 students. Last year, the CCE also raised $8,000 for the Plan Padrino program at our sister YMCA in Ibague, Colombia.
